Mrs. Mary Lou McGhee's Obituary
McGhee, Mary Lou, 79, of St. Petersburg, passed away on Friday, March 11th, at Bayfront Medical Center. She moved here in 1953 from Waycross, GA, where she had worked for the State of Georgia as well as the Federal Government. Mary Lou worked for Florida Power for 8 years before working for several circulation directors at the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper and retiring after 23 years. She was a Certified Professional Secretary, a member of the Silver Key Club, and held all positions from Secretary to President for the Condo Association of Five Towns Amherst Building. She was a big help to everyone and volunteered around Five Towns and attended numerous leadership Condo Association seminars. She also had typed all of her daughter's college term papers. Mary Lou did Project Pup volunteer work for a local nursing home. While being a member of First United Methodist Church, she was a greeter, participated in the Prayer Ministry, a leader in the Disciple Bible Ministry and she also counted the Sunday offerings every Monday morning. She also did a needle point picture of Jesus Christ that hung in the Fellowship Hall. Mary Lou was the caretaker for her husband, who was stricken with cancer for 33 years until he passed in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Archie Stephen Walker. She was a very loyal wife and dedicated mother. She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Harrall McGhee; her brother, Malcolm Wesley Walker and his wife Nina Carroll Walker and 2 nieces, Carroll Ann and Beth. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 17th from 6pm to 8pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Friday, March 18th at First United Methodist Church at 11am with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
