Maria A Evora's Obituary
Evora, Maria Amparo, 91 years old, passed away December 30, 2016. Maria was born October 21, 1925, in Santa Clara, Cuba. She and her husband Orlando came to St. Petersburg in 1968 with their three children to start a new life in America. Maria was a teacher in Cuba, and she continued as an educator in St. Pete, working as a Spanish teacher at Shorecrest Preparatory School for over 20 years. Hundreds of students have fond memories of learning Spanish from Señora Evora. As much as she loved to teach, she also loved to learn, and she made lists of new words to study in order to improve her English vocabulary. Maria was a talented seamstress as well, and she particularly loved to make pajamas for her many grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters Vivian Evora (Tony), Leyla Tremaine (Thom) and son Orlando (Carrie), grandchildren Brandon Watson (Jennika), Taylor and Hunter Tremaine, Parker, Connor, Austin and Paige Evora, and great-grandson Oliver Watson, as well as many nieces and nephews in Florida and Madrid, Spain.
A funeral mass will be held at Transfiguration Catholic Church in St. Petersburg at 9:30 AM on Saturday, January 14. After a private interment, there will be a gathering to celebrate Maria’s life at 220 Rafael Blvd NE, St. Petersburg, at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Suncoast Hospice Foundation, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd Clearwater, FL 33760 and Alzheimer's Association, Florida Gulf Coast Chapter, 13010 Roosevelt Blvd, Suite 709, Clearwater, FL 33762.
