Mrs. Marguerite S Gamble's Obituary
Gamble, Marguerite Smyly passed away June 14. She was born in Thomaston, AL, on September 23, 1914. She grew up in the mining camps of Al, graduated salutatorian of her high school and obtained her RN degree at Birmingham Baptist College. She came to FL in 1940, working at Bay Pines Veteran's Hospital throughout WWII. She married Harry James Gamble in 1941, had 3 children; Roger, Paul and Iris, was widowed in 1959 and then worked doing private duty nursing. She was very active in her church, teaching Sunday School for over 60 years. Help found and became a charter member of Garden City Baptist. Help start Friendship and Azalea Baptist Church's, while remaining an active member of Hobson Memorial, which later became Emmanuel and then Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. Over many years she donated much of her time and money to a multitude of charities. Everyone knew her as gracious and kind. She will be missed and remembered lovingly by her family, children, Roger & Shirley Gamble, Paul Gamble and Iris & Doug Harbert; grandchildren, Dale & Julia Gamble, Tamara & Todd Martin, and Patrick Harbert; great grandchildren, Casalyn and Dalton Gamble, Erin, Emma and Megan Martin; brothers, George Rodney Duncan and Daniel Bridges Duncan.
