M. Susan Klutts' Obituary
Mary Susan Klutts Chichester, age 81, passed away on January 4, 2024, at her home in Clearwater, Florida. Susan, born September 17, 1942, to Edward Klutts and Pauline Polk Klutts, was a proud third-generation native of St. Petersburg. Her grandfather, John Leonard Klutts, arrived in Pinellas County in 1891 and is remembered on the monument at Pioneer Park. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1960 and earned her B.S. in nursing from the University of Florida. She worked as a nurse anesthetist for 22 years at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, during which she served a term as president of the Florida Association of Nurse Anesthetists. She later retired from Largo Medical Center. In 1996 Susan married Justus “Dusty” Chichester. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, including cross-country RV trips, cruises, summers in the North Carolina mountains, and trips along the Gulf Coast to her favorite casino in Gulfport, Mississippi. She was predeceased by her husband Dusty, her older sister Patricia Lee, and her nephew John Lee; she is survived by her younger sister Sally Carson, her nephews Charles Carson (spouse Zac Morris) and Darrell Lee (spouse Lauri Bair), and grandniece Jocelyn Lee.
To remember Susan and celebrate her life, friends and family are invited to gather at the Caribay Clubhouse (2980 Haines Bayshore Road, Clearwater) on Saturday, February 3, from 1–4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Nurses Foundation, PO Box 504342, Saint Louis MO 63150-4342, https://www.nursingworld.org/foundation/donate/.
