Lucy Cash's Obituary
Lucy Mattie Collins Cash, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 4, 2018 in Hospice of Palm Gardens nursing home in St. Petersburg, Florida. She was born on July 16, 1930 in Natural Bridge, Virginia and was the oldest of 4 children.
Lucy was a wife to a navy veteran hero at D-day who risked his life to save others and decorated with the bronze metal; she had a lot to live up to, still she chose to live life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, baking friendship cakes for her church, volunteering in community events and parades with the VA Veterans Club and spending time with her granddaughter, great grandchildren and niece.
She was the daughter of the late Woodrow W. Collins and Emma Miller Collins. Lucy is predeceased by her husband Grover Hugh Cash and her son Gregory Hugh Cash. She is survived by her daughter Mary Ertel and husband Richard of Florida; stepdaughters Gloria Kreitzer and Linda Elder of Virginia; sister Gladys Sanner and brother Joe Collins and daughter Crystal Rejonis of Virginia; her youngest brother Roy Collins and wife Donna of Florida. Her grandchildren April Ertel and husband Mathew and Lee Ertel and wife Monica of St. Petersburg, Florida. Four great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Lucy will be remembered for her big smiles and shining light by her family, friends, the Charlottesville VA Veterans Club, the Ladies Auxiliary DAV Club, communities and the church she served. Family members and friends will miss her dearly.
Her final resting place is at Rose Hill Memorial Park, 4406 E. Chelsea Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33610. Her sister will be holding private services to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, just chat.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to your local Alzheimer’s association.
We should all remember and abide by her wisdom and do as we were often reminded: be good or she’ll kick your ass.
