Lorraine L. Babus' Obituary
Lorraine Babus of Gulfport, Florida, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 13, 2019 in her home. She was 94.
Lorraine was born July 29, 1924 in Old Town, Maine; the beautiful daughter of the late George Edward Landry Sr. and Edna Landry. She spent the early years of her life in the northeastern United States including several years in Dracut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Lorraine had a varied career throughout her lifetime working in retails sales with several firms and as a teacher. She ultimately established a 15+ year career as a secretary with the Raytheon Corporation in Lowell, Massachusetts. In her later years, she volunteered at the Senior Center in Gulfport, Florida, served with Meals On Wheels and was a respected champion on the Bocce courts. She was a long-time member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church 5800 15th Ave S. Gulfport, Florida. Lorraine also remained active in her community where she served as President, Secretary and Director with the Eton Building of Town Shores. She was a beloved mother, loving grandmother, dear great grandmother and devoted friend who will be dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands Robert Bates, Sr and Stephen Babus; two sons, Alan Bates and Robert Bates, Jr; her sister, Virginia Stone and her brother, George Edward “Doodie” Landry Jr.
Lorraine is survived by her children, Brian Bates, Sharon Bates Zimmerman, Timothy Bates and David Bates. She is the loving grandmother of 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2019 in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home 5750 49th St. N, St Petersburg, Florida.
