Lorene G. Brock's Obituary
Venie Lorene Brock was born Sept. 2, 1920 to James Mitchell Gray and Rittie Jane Daniels Gray in a small rural area outside of Chipley in the panhandle of Florida. She was one of 9, 3 boys and 6 girls. An infant boy that died shortly after birth, twin girls Nora and Cora, James, Lois, Lorene, Merle, Mildred and Louie. All the siblings remained close through their entire lives and she was predeceased by them all. On December 24, 1937, she married Jesse Herman Brock, the love of her life. He passed away in 1991 at the age of 71 after 53 years of marriage. Their children Herman Dwan, born in 1946, and Rhonda Lorene, born in 1951. Both Herman and Lorene were very active in Oakie Ridge Baptist Church, the Brock ancestors were part of the founding fathers of the church. The family enjoyed a wonderful small town Christian life with every Sunday being spent in church and meals and lazy afternoons with parents, siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins. In 1960 they moved to St. Petersburg looking for more opportunities for the family than the small rural area offered. They joined Northeast Park Baptist and remained members until their death. Lorene always was concerned more about others than herself. No one entered her door without being fed her excellent southern cooking. Friends or family that was ill could always count on her being there to nurse them back to health or to the end. It was her wish to remain at home until her death, we as a family, were only able to accomplish this due to her devout caretaker and companion, Rebecca. The family wishes to thank her for the care and love she gave to Lorene in the last few years of her life. Lorene is survived by her two children Dwan Brock and Rhonda Hull and her husband Bob; 3 grandchildren Robert Steven Hull and wife Kristen, Lori Brock Prewett and husband Randy and Christi Brock Hutchinson and husband Ryan. She was blessed with 4 great-grandchildren Cody Prewett, Alexa and Sophia Hull and Eli Hutchinson and 2 great-great-grandchildren Corey and Cameron Prewett.
