Mrs. Lois H. Finch's Obituary
Lois H. Finch 101, a true "Southern Lady" was born in Augusta, Georgia October 8th 1910 and died July 4th 2012. She was one of 5 children born to Pearl and Frank Hicks. She was preceded in death by her husband Bert F. Finch Sr. in 1981. She married Bert F. Finch in March of 1927 and had one son Bert F. Finch Jr. born in Savannah, Ga. The family moved to St. Petersburg in 1929. Lois was in retail for many years, including Derby Lane where she was a cashier. Always ready at a moments notice for adventure, they loved to travel with their camper even making the enormous trip to Alaska in the 50's after the AlCAN Highway was mostly paved . She did the driving as always, pulling their one wheeled camper the entire way up and back. Bert and she built a beautiful vacation home in the North Carolina Mountains over looking Hendersonville. They spent summers growing vegetables, canning and even raising a couple steers, and pigs for food to last the year in the freezers back home in St. Pete. Entertaining was another wonderful gift. Everyone was welcome to visit, stay and enjoy the cool air, views of the city lights miles away in the valley and wonderful cookouts. And come they did, many friends and relatives all welcomed with open arms and great times, taking home lasting memories. Roller skating in Bert Jr's garage with the grandchildren in her 60's, was a bit of a hint for what was to come and keep her so vital and full of life for so long Lois never seemed to slow down and well into her 90's made it known she wanted to be included on everything. Never one to sit and relax, nothing changed as she grew older and would not as long as she had the ability to charge ahead. Never thinking of herself as getting older, she said when looking in the mirror, she wondered who the old woman was looking back, because as far as she was concerned, in her head she was still 16. We will miss her, Mom, Mother in law, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and friend. Lois is survived by her son, Bert F. Finch Jr. (Anita), Grandchildren: Vickie Finch Rolfe (Tom), Chris Finch (Beth), Kelley Scott (Darren), John Thompson (Hazel), Shannon Anderson (Bill), David Swift (Evi) Great Grandchildren: Nikolaus Rolfe (Dana), Alexander Rolfe (Amy), Charlie Hord, Katie Finch, Erin Thompson, Emiley, Olivia and Meghan Scott, William, Ben, Max and Logan Anderson.
