Linda Suddarth Payne's Obituary
Linda Suddarth Payne July 25, 1948-March 19, 2024
Linda Payne of Pinellas Park, Florida died peacefully in hospice on March 19, 2024 following a brief illness.
Linda's early life was spent in Charlottesville, VA, as the sixth child of Joseph Bryant and Belle Bishop Suddarth, Sr. Her childhood was spent as most with neighborhood friends, school and games.
After McGuffey Elementary School, she attended Lane High School where she had many lifelong friends.
After school, Linda found a talent for administration and worked for many years at the Public Works Department in Charlottesville as well as the accounting department for the County of
Albemarle. Never a shrinking violet, Linda had an active social life both before, while in school, and during this phase of her life.
She was an active member of the Loyal Order of the Women of the Moose and carried this affiliation for her entire life. Moving to Florida, Linda began the the next installment of her story in Tampa. After becoming acclimated to both the weather and the lifestyle, Linda resumed her calling with public service and worked in administration, eventually retiring as a Mobility Analyst for the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority.
In her private life, she continued her affiliation with the Women of the Moose, achieving many ranks within the organization. One of her greatist joys was attending Moose Conventions with her sister Ruby.
In addition, she was a member of several other organizations where she held offices of responsibility. She was treasurer of women’s club Mainlands unit 2 and the treasurer of the Mainlands unit 2 social club.
She was widowed by her true prince of 24 years, Warren “Joey” Payne last year; and was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Virginia S. Olson (Al), Joseph B. “Buddy” Suddarth, Jr. (Betty), Ruby S. Easton (Chuck), and James M. Suddarth (Aleane).
She is survived by her brother, Larry T. Suddarth (Nora), numerous nieces and nephews, and her dog, Bandit, and many friends, including her very special friend and companion, Lu Cushing.
She was an avid bingo player who also loved card games. In short, she was a firecracker, opinionated, stubborn, quick-witted, loyal to a fault and loved by all.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the Mainlands Clubhouse #2 at 11am on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
Memorial Park Funeral Home will be handling funeral arrangements.
The family wants to extend a special thanks to Dr. Jagger Keene and AccentCare Hospice.
