Leoncio "Leo" B. Tena MD's Obituary
Leoncio "Leo" B. Tena, MD of St. Petersburg, passed away at the age of 89 on January 30, 2023. He was born September 13, 1933, to Salud Blasco and Roque Tena of Naga City, Philippines.
Upon graduation from the University of Santo Tomas Medical School in 1959, Leo completed his medical training in NYC where he met the love of his life, Rosita. They married in 1964 and moved to NJ and raised five children while building a successful career as a radiologist. Leo joined the U.S. Army Reserves and served as an officer in the Gulf War, eventually retiring from the Army as a Colonel.
Lovingly known to his ten grandchildren as Lolo, he is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Rosita Gregorio-Tena; by his children Leonard and Angie Tena (grandchildren Liam, Kat and Jack), Lawrence Tena, Roselle Tena (grandchildren Amelia, Nolan and Isa), Rowena Tena and David Lifset (grandchildren Ella and Jude), Roxanne Tena-Nelson and Carl Nelson (grandchildren Gabriel and Marcel); and by many relatives and friends.
Leo was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose strong work ethic and modesty were signature characteristics at the center of his success. He enjoyed sharing his family’s achievements, and his impact will forever be felt. All who knew him appreciated his reserved charm and were delightfully surprised by hidden talents of ballroom dancing, making beautiful bamboo kites, and sharing his epic life story.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday February 10 at 1:30pm at Holy Family Catholic Church, 200 78th Ave NE, Saint Petersburg, FL 33702.The internment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 5233 118th Avenue N, Clearwater, FL 33760.
Visitation for Leo will be on Thursday Feb 9 from 4-6 pm and Friday Feb 10 from 11am until 12:30pm at Memorial Park, 5750 49th Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33709.
