Laurna Alice Styke's Obituary
Styke, Laurna Alice, of Largo, went to be with the Lord and her beloved husband, Nick Styke on Oct 11, 2011. She is formerly from the Eastern Shore of Virginia presently residing in Largo, Fl. She is preceded in death by her husband of over 60yrs, Nick Styke, mother Margaret Towell King and Father Martin King, brothers Marty King and Darryl King.
She is survived by her son, Rodger W. Styke his wife Sheila Lynn Styke and Grandson Wayne Marshall Jr. of Parksley Va; sisters Arla Smith and her husband Hubert of Largo, Fl and Thessalon, Ontario and Pat Taylor and husband Bob of Laduc, Alberta and a brother Lyall King and his wife Val of Aurora, Ontario and several nieces and nephews. Her dog Sammy and cat Snowy.
She was born in Thessalon, Canada on Sept 6, 1924. She became a school teacher in Thunder Bay, Ontario in a one room school house grades 1-12 combined. In 1947 she married Nick Styke and moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia. In 1961, Rodger was born and she became a stay at home mom.
In 1973 she assisted Nick in the start of the Meatland/Food City chain of supermarkets, working side by side until they retired in 1989.
She enjoyed Theatre, traveling, music and her favorite show, Dancing WithThe Stars.
She enjoyed spending summers in Canada on Georgian Bay and the winters in Florida with lots of family and friends.
