Kay Hopper Griesmeyer's Obituary
Kay Hopper Griesmeyer, better known as "Granny Kay", peacefully passed away on February 10, 2022, at the age of 81. She was born on October 16, 1940, and lived a colorful life. She grew up in Anderson County, SC, and lived in many places before moving to St. Petersburg, FL in 1979.
Granny Kay was strong in her faith and a firm believer in Divine Order who was always trying to outdo The Universe with her generosity and kindness. She was Mom to her three children, close friends, and many animals over her lifetime. She loved feeding the birds and squirrels that frequented her backyard.
Granny Kay instilled a love of learning and excellent manners in children everywhere. She was the owner of Somebodies Beauty Shoppe for 20 years and a frequent patron of Haslam’s Book Store. She loved excellent food, appreciated fine wine, and considered herself a gourmet cook with signature dishes including paella, shrimp linguine, crab cakes, and cheesy beef macaroni. All who knew Granny would hear her say “To thine own self be true” and "One day at a time"; she lived by both.
She is preceded in death by her son, Eric. She is survived by her son, Barry Griesmeyer (Karen), and daughter, Dana West. She was very proud of her grandchildren Melissa, Matthew (Amanda), Kyle, Dylan, James (Stephanie), and Sara-Kay. Granny Kay was also blessed with great-grandchildren Austin, Kaiden, Ezra, Aydin, and Gabriella.
In her memory, please consider sending purple flowers to someone you love or making a donation to Friends of Strays or Pet Pal Animal Shelter.
