Kathryn Lavisa Rankin's Obituary
Rankin, Kathryn Nicks, 94, passed away Thursday, January 31st, 2013 at Menorah Manor in the care of Suncoast Hospice after a brief illness. She was born June 15, 1918, in Nashville, TN. She was the fourth of seven children to Jay and Carrie Nicks. Her family moved to St. Petersburg when she was seven years of age. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1937 and Mound Park Hospital's three year nursing program in 1941, as a registered nurse. She worked in St. Petersburg hospitals for a number of years. She is survived by her daughter Kay Villar; son Randy Rankin (Lana) Citrus Springs, FL; son Tim Rankin (Gayle); grandson Jim Rankin (Sandy); great grandchildren Bradley, Tyler and Marielle all of St. Petersburg. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the last survivor of seven children.
Her passion and priority was always her family. She served as room mother and was active in the PTA for all of her three children. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and was a voracious reader. Her smile, laughter, and love will be missed. She was a member of Fifth Ave Baptist Church and Mound Park Hospital Nurses Alumnae Assoc. A viewing will be held on February 9th from 10 to 11am with a celebration of her life at 11am at the funeral home.
