In Memory of June Simon
On the morning of April 2, 2019, June (Schinto) Simon passed away peacefully of natural causes. June was visited and comforted by family members at her home in Sterling Virginia, at the time of her passing. June was 92 years old. June Simon was born in Greenwich, Connecticut on June 23, 1926. She was the oldest of two children and the only daughter of Grace and Anthony Schinto. June was a devout Catholic and supported many charities to include meals on wheel in both Arlington Virginia and St. Petersburg Florida as well as provided goods for the poor in Haiti.
June attended many outstanding schools including Sacred Heart Villa, Laurelton Hall and graduated from Good Counsel College in White Plains NY now PACE University. After graduation, June attended a year of medical school at Vermont University where she received her Masters in Biology. She began her career working at a medical lab in New York City. In 1949 June moved to Monterey California where she met her husband, John E. Simon of Kaplan, Louisiana. Within two weeks of meeting each other, John proposed and they were married on October 23, 1950. The wedding took place in June’s home town of Greenwich Connecticut. Their marriage lasted over 50 years. After serving for many years as the Head of Medical Records at Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax Virginia, June retired in 1986. Years later she and John moved to St. Petersburg, Florida to enjoy their retirement years. June majored in Biology was extremely intelligent. Her family remembers her as an avid reader and excellent cook. Even in her 90s she could easily outperform most contestants on the Television show Jeopardy. She prepared many international cuisines for her family, but was especially partial to Italian and Cajun cooking.June was preceded in death by her husband Lt Col John E. Simon. June is survived by her brother Gene Schinto and her four children (Michelle Simone of New York, Grace Jeglum of Virginia, Amelia Diez of Florida, and Anthony Simon of Virginia), 11 Grandchildren and 21 Great Grandchildren. As a special blessing to June, God presented her with her 21st Great Grandchild on the day of her passing, April 2, 2019.
