Josephine Sarah Matracia's Obituary
Josephine Sarah Matracia, age 97, of Saint Petersburg, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2022. A beloved daughter, sister, godmother, aunt, and friend, Josie (“Dolly”) will be remembered as a bright light in our lives and a faithful servant of God. Josie was a devout Catholic who emulated the Christian virtues of faith, hope, and love. As a long-term parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church in St. Petersburg, she cherished her faith and the fellowship of her sisters and brothers in Christ. As an expression of her love and compassion, Josie served the community as a member of The Secular Order of the Servants of Mary, and as a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Cross. She was an avid traveler and visited countless religious shrines and sites around the world. Josie had a deep love for her family and many friends – who loved and adored her. She touched and inspired all of us to live fully and love unconditionally. We will miss her immensely and we will forever cherish the time and memories we shared.
Josie was preceded in death by parents Rosalia and Salvatore Matracia, brother Frank Matracia, sister Mary (Matracia) Kryston, cousin and best friend Rose “Rosie” Grado, nephew Larry Kryston and niece Marie Elaine (Kryston) Casey.
Josie was blessed to have an excellent care team. The family extends our sincere gratitude to everyone who helped her, especially friend and caregiver Caroline Kirby, various physicians and HCP’s, and the exceptional team of healthcare providers and supporting staff at Empath Suncoast Hospice of Pinellas County.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 10th, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery at 5750 49th Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33709. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 11th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 7851 54th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL 33709, with burial to follow at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.
