Joseph James Tilki Jr., 83, passed away on February 11, 2026, in Pinellas Park, Florida, at Suncoast Hospice. Born on January 5, 1943, in Derby, Connecticut, Joseph lived a full and spirited life marked by service, hard work, and a deep love for his family.
Joseph proudly served in the United States Coast Guard for four years, an experience that shaped his strong sense of duty and resilience. After his military service, he dedicated his career to the Pinellas County Highway Division as a truck driver. His work ethic and commitment to keeping the roads safe were evident throughout his years of service.
Known for his stubborn streak and sharp wit, Joseph was never one to shy away from sharing his opinion or striking up a conversation with anyone he met. He had a unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life—whether through humor or heartfelt stories—and left lasting impressions wherever he went.
Joseph found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid sports fan who rarely missed a game played by the Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay Lightning, or Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In recent years, he also became a devoted follower of The Ohio State Buckeyes. When not cheering on his favorite teams, he could often be found tinkering with anything mechanical or puzzling over a crossword with determination. A loyal reader of the Tampa Bay Times, Joseph kept himself informed and engaged with the world around him.
Above all else, Joseph cherished time spent with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Jeanne; his son Brian and daughter-in-law Ashley; and his treasured granddaughters Coraline and Danica. His sisters Gladys (and her late husband John) and Cheryl (and her husband Lou), as well as his brother David (and wife Kimberly), also mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Joseph Tilki Sr., whose memory remained close to him throughout his life.
