Joseph M Marquinez's Obituary
Joseph Michael Marquinez, aka “Joe” to some and “Mike” to others, age 69, of St. Petersburg, passed away Saturday, September 3rd, at Northside Hospital with his family by his side.
Joe was born February 22, 1947 in Tampa, Florida to Jose and Laura Marquinez. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy and proudly served in the Vietnam War before his honorable discharge in 1971. Later on he served as a firefighter for the city of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and as a master carpenter for the Tampa Bay Coast Guard, before beginning his cherished and lengthy career at the Tampa Airport Postal Service, a job he truly loved.
Joe is survived by his dedicated and loving wife, Judy, his children, Joe O’Toole of Suffolk, Virginia, Dawn Mishmash, of Crossville, TN, Tracy Carper of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Joseph Michael Marquinez, of St. Petersburg, Florida, along with thirteen grandchildren, brothers Manuel Rodriguez and Andrew Marquinez, a sister, Carmen Leon, as well as many, many other family and friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Jose and Laura Marquinez, his brother, Ralph Rodriguez, and sisters Anita Suarez, Shirley Blanco, and Arsenia Estevez.
A true patriarch in life, Joe became a father figure to many of those he coached during his baseball days and will be remembered not only for his funny antics, but for the love he gave to so many who were blessed to call him husband, father, brother, and friend.
Visitation will be Friday, September 9, at 1pm at Memorial Park Funeral home in St. Petersburg, Florida, with services following at 2pm.
