John Joseph Rosso, 86, passed on July 30th. A proud first generation American, born to a German mother and Italian Father in Queens, New York he was raised in Mastic Beach, Long Island. Following his military service in the Unites Read Obituary
He was my direct boss at USDA at Rural Development. I loved him very much. He took me under his wing and was a great mentor. I am sorry for his passing. Watching that video was moving and brought me to tears. He used to call me into his office every afternoon and tell me stories about his life. Utterly fascinating.
We will never forget John's enduring friendship with our family, nor his indefatigable will. We were so privileged to know and love him. I hope my mom is showing him the ropes up there.

We met 17 years ago and became instant friends. I have so many memories of the great times that that the four of us shared besides the weekly club dances and Sunday dinners that the four of us shared, the two that can never be replaced is our fourth of July trip to Washington and your visit to New Hampshire. It was there that I witnessed the unbelievable day when you had your fill of lobster. Now there are two of us left to remember, say hello to Leslie I miss both of you very much. My love to Joanne,Lori,John and your beautiful Family.

I first met John Rosso, during Lori’s popular years as proprietress of the Sea Breeze Manor. As Lori’s dad, John sort of became the “Patriarch” of the Manor always there with a twinkle in his eye for Gulfport celebrations and events. Early on I learned that John served in the US Navy in the late 50’s and discovered that we were both stationed on destroyers assigned to the Sixth Fleet cruising in the Mediterranean. For years after John continued to be on the water with boats of his own on the East Coast.
John went on to have a most noteworthy lifetime career in public service in several prestigious areas. Knowing John is having a friend. John was intelligent , decisive, easy to converse with, witty, a real gentleman with swagger, and in private , always had his sailors vocabulary to fall back on.
