John W. Romig's Obituary
John Wagner Romig, age 73, died peacefully and with dignity on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 in St. Petersburg, FL following an eight-month battle with leukemia. John was born in Selinsgrove PA in 1946 to Helen and Perry Romig, the youngest of four children. The family moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 1957, where John attended Boca Ciega High School, St. Petersburg Junior College, the University of South Florida, and the University of Tampa, graduating from UT in1973. During this time, he served in the US Navy for four years and then continued serving in the Naval Reserves until his retirement as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1995. John married fellow Naval Reservist Glenda Smythe in August of 1980. He taught Industrial Arts at Dixie Hollins High School for five years and then went to work for the St. Petersburg Times, where he worked as a Systems Development Engineer and Building Manager, retiring in 2007.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Perry Romig, his brothers and sisters (Larry, Helen, and Lois), and his wife, Glenda. He leaves a brother-in-law (Tony Morrison), a step-son (Gary Hett), many nieces and nephews who knew and love him well, and a host of friends and family of the heart who will especially miss his laugh, his wisdom, his passion, and his generosity.
