Henderson, Jo Ann (Vaught)
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and wonderful friend to many, died March 7,
2023 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Jo Ann was Born May 9, 1929, in Van, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents Martin and Ruth Vaught and three siblings, William and Homer Harless and Sadie Shreve.
She is survived by her husband Albert Henderson, whom she married in 1973, son, David Barnes (Carna) of Seminole, Florida, and daughter, Jennifer Rady (Dennis) of Inverness, Florida; her 3 grandchildren, Courtney Boerker (Keith) of Pinellas Park, Florida, Joshua Barnes (Christina) of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Callie Morrison (Jess) of Seminole, Florida; and her 5 great grandchildren (Carson, Katherine, Lola, Mia, and Aspen), along with many nieces and nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
She graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan University with a bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in Music where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.
In 1962 Jo Ann moved to St. Petersburg, Florida with her two children. She earned her master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of South Florida. She began a career in education, teaching music and English in West Virginia and continued in Pinellas County for over thirty years. She retired as the Registrar of Lakewood High School in 1985.
After moving to Florida, Jo Ann met her husband Albert Henderson, with whom she enjoyed 49 loving years. Jo and Al were lifelong members of First Baptist Church St. Petersburg. She served on many committees and was very involved with the Senior Ministry of the church. She was a member of Anchor Choir and a 50-year member of the Sanctuary choir.
Jo Ann was passionate about gardening and was a long-time member of the St. Petersburg Garden Club where she served as president for many years. She was also Chairperson of the Grow and Share Committee. She also enjoyed and excelled at the game of Bridge and loved sharing her gift for music. Jo Ann will be remembered for her loving nature, dedication to her family and service to her church.
A Viewing will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 9:00a.m. – 9:30 a.m., with the service to follow at 9:30am at First Baptist Church of St. Petersburg, 1900 Gandy Blvd. North, St. Petersburg, Florida.
Jo Ann will be interred at Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to First Baptist Church, St. Petersburg.
