Jimmie Elton Varnes

Jimmie Elton (Jim) Varnes was born August 14, 1936 to James Hubert Varnes and Bessie Lucille (nee Greenamyre) in Avon Park, FL.
At the age of 20, he enlisted in the Air Force where he reached the rank of Tech Seargent and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After 20 years of service, he retired. He then went on to work as a film editor for WFLA Channel 8 in Tampa, FL. After retiring from there he worked for All Children’s Hospital as a courier and warehouse technician.
In 1995, he married Karen Varnes, where they enjoyed 21 years of marriage while bowling in leagues, traveling regularly to Las Vegas and Biloxi, and then eventually doting on their grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “Pappy”.
Jimmie passed away peacefully Saturday June 28, 2025. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen, his mother and father, and his sister Carol. He is survived by his stepson Jerry (Jennifer), his stepdaughter Kara (David), grandchildren JP, Elise, and Graham, and his niece, Michelle.
Funeral Services will be held at Memorial Park on Wednesday July 9th, 2025. Visitation is from 10-12, with a service and burial immediately following.
