Mrs. Jane C. Weaver's Obituary
Weaver, Jane C., 89, of St. Petersburg, Florida, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 1st, just 4 days before her 69th wedding anniversary. She was born in Mount Ephraim, New Jersey on October 26th, 1926. Jane grew up on a farm and she and her sisters moved to the city when they were young women, where she once worked as an elevator operator.
Jane met her husband Ray in a small corner store near their homes in New Jersey. The story goes that she dropped a loaf of bread and he tried to pick it up for her but she was too fast for him. He was hooked and kept returning to the store until he saw her again. They were married July 5th, 1947. They had five children: Linda, Raymond, Steve, Susan and John. Ray was in the Navy and was transferred to Norfolk, Virginia in 1950. Jane would take care of the family by herself for months at a time while he was out to sea.
Jane sold Court Cosmetics for a time and also worked in a diner for a short time. After she and her husband moved to Florida in the 1960’s, she sold Avon Cosmetics.
She loved bowling and competed on many teams over the years. She also loved playing pool and won many tournaments at family billiard halls. She had a pool table in her den at home, where numerous bowling and pool trophies were displayed. She loved card games, board games and puzzles, and enjoyed teaching her grandchildren and others how to play. She loved music and was a big fan of Elvis Presley. She was an avid fan of the Buccaneers and the Rays. She followed all of their games and knew the players by name. Jane and Ray loved to dance, go out to eat, go on trips, and cruise. In recent years they attended the Salvation Army in downtown St. Petersburg on Tuesdays and Thursdays where they played Bingo, sang songs, ate a meal and socialized with friends. Jane loved the Lord and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pinellas Park for over 40 years.
She is survived by her children Linda Cooper, Raymond Weaver, Steve (Vicky) Weaver, Susan (Michael) Mathews and John (Debbie) Weaver; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 brother.
A graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery on Saturday, July 9th at 2pm.
