James Harvey Thompson's Obituary
James Harvey Thompson, 78, died July 3, 2023 from complications of diabetes. Born in West Virginia, Jim was part of a loving and proud clan with coal mining roots, of whom many became lawyers, thanks to the GI Bill. Like his uncles, he later enrolled in law school, graduating from Catholic University School of Law. He then moved to Tampa, where he worked as an assistant state attorney and in private practice. Predeceased by his parents, Harvey and Marion, stepfather Mac McCauley, and namesake, uncle, and mentor James E. Thompson. Survived by daughters, Melissa "Kobie" Pierce (Tampa), Vanessa Thompson (San Francisco), and Elizabeth Wright (Palm Harbor); grandchildren, Zeke, Anna, Lukas, Liv, Leo, and Penelope; sisters, Carolyn Meares (Ijamsville, MD) and Joyce Saylor (Suwanee, GA); and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
