James Meno Stratton's Obituary
James Meno Stratton, 84, passed away on June 11, 2026, with his wife, Jacqueline, by his side. Born on March 18, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, Jim lived a remarkable life defined by love, laughter, faith, family, and an unwavering appreciation for those around him.
As the last survivor of three brothers and one sister, Jim carried with him the values that would define his life: strong morals, deep faith, kindness, and a steadfast devotion to family. He shared a loving marriage with his beloved wife, Jackie, who was not only his partner in life but also his greatest source of joy and laughter.
To know Jim was to be welcomed by his warm smile, his quick wit, and his genuine interest in others. He had a gift for making everyone feel important, whether sharing a story, making a joke, or simply offering a listening ear. Jim brought happiness wherever he went. Children were naturally drawn to him, and he adored them in return. He found endless joy in animals, family gatherings, and seeing others happy.
Jim was the patriarch of his family, the caretaker, a storyteller, a jokester, and the glue that held everyone together. His advice was simple yet powerful: be a good person and take care of your family and loved ones. He lived those words every day.
His professional life reflected his entrepreneurial spirit and determination. He worked at Johnson & Johnson, where he was part of the team that developed the first surgical gown. He was an instrumental part of the family business, Stratton Hats, and went on to own and operate several successful restaurants/ bars, including six in Chicago and one in Florida. Whatever he pursued, Jim did it wholeheartedly and with enthusiasm.
A man of deep faith, Jim cherished the Greek Orthodox Church. During his many travels around the world, he made it a habit to visit local churches, light a candle, and offer a prayer. His faith remained a quiet but constant presence throughout his life.
Jim embraced life fully. He loved baseball, especially cheering for the Tampa Bay Rays and the Chicago White Sox, and football teams Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Da Bears. He enjoyed boating, traveling, fantasy football, reading, and researching topics that sparked his curiosity. He was always eager to learn, to experience something new, and to share his adventures and stories with those he loved. He especially enjoyed discovering new foods during his travels, though Greek cuisine remained his favorite. He also never lost his sweet tooth.
Jim generously supported numerous charitable causes throughout his life, with a special place in his heart for organizations that helped children.
Above all, Jim loved his family. His life was a testament to the power of kindness, laughter, faith, and unconditional love. He rarely met a stranger, never missed a chance to make someone smile, and approached life with optimism and gratitude. While many people see the glass as half full, Jim saw it overflowing with love, family, friendship, and possibility.
His absence leaves an immeasurable void, yet his legacy endures in the countless lives he touched, the laughter he inspired, and the love he shared so freely.
He will be deeply missed and remembered always and forever.
A Memorial Service will take place Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 1 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Crematory, 5750 49th Street North, St. Petersburg, Fl 33709.
