Jack H Murray Jr.'s Obituary
MURRAY, Lt. Col. Jack H. Jr. 89, of St. Petersburg, passed away at his home on Monday, July 12, 2010. He was born on Aug. 24, 1920, in Sherman, TX to Elsie Mae Simmons and Jack H. Murray. He graduated from school in Commerce, TX where he enjoyed playing high school football. He attended Texas A&M from August, 1938 until 1942. He was commissioned in the Army as a 2nd Lt. in Artillery in May of 1942 and from there was transferred to the Signal Corps. He finished third in a class of 20 of the Signal Corps Advanced School in Ft. Monmouth, NJ in 1948. He completed one year at Command General Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, receiving a certificate of completion in the Spring of 1954. He retired from the Army in 1969 after serving 27 years finishing as a Lt. Col. After retiring from the military he purchased an apartment in New Orleans and did freelance work there. He then moved to St. Petersburg in 1972 and attended night school at the University of South Florida from 1972 until 1977 and received his Masters Degree in Engineering. He went to work at Tampa General Hospital as Director of Engineering where he worked for 14 years. Helen, his wife of 54 years, died in 1996. His daughter, Melissa Murray, lives in Newport News, VA. He will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors on Monday, Nov. 8, 2010. Viewing will be from 3-4 pm at the Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5750 49th Street N, St. Petersburg, with a memorial service 4 pm on Friday, July 16.
