Ms. Helen M Simonds' Obituary
Helen Mills Simonds, 98 of St Petersburg, died peacefully at home on Thursday January 28, 2016. She was born in Palmyra, NY on September 25, 1917. She graduated from Potsdam College with a teaching degree in 1937. Her first teaching job was in a one room schoolhouse, grades 1-12. She married her husband, Carl in Richville, NY on August 9, 1941. They lived in Dacketts Harbor, NY where they operated an ice cream business and she taught kindergarten.
They moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1963 where they owned and operated a Mister Donut shop. They retired in 1970 to St Petersburg. They enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and traveling. Helen traveled the world doing what she loved, teaching and directing bridge tournaments for Royal Caribbean cruise lines for 12 years. She dearly loved her family, her church friends and her bridge friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl. Survivors include son Gil Simonds (Sandy); daughters Cheryl Walker (David) and Marion Mitchell (Brian), six grandchildren Helen Tolar (Mac) Charles Walker (Robin), Chris Bryan, Wesley Bryan (Kirby), Cam Simonds (Sara), Matt Simonds (Kodie). Six great grandchildren; Sydney, Walker, Oliver, Mary Mac, Hadley and Emerson. A celebration of life will be held Sat. Feb 6, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, 2612 12th St N.
