Harold "Harry" E. Standorf's Obituary
Harold “Harry” E. Standorf , 73, of Largo, Florida passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2020. He was born in Campbell, Ohio on June 27, 1947 to Harold and Josephine Bozichovich Standorf, both of whom are deceased. He married his Campbell Memorial High School sweetheart Patricia “Patty” Beelen in 1968; after 46 years of marriage Patricia passed away. Harold and Patricia are lovingly remembered by their children, Brian (Mary) and Kelly, and their grandchildren Logan and Riley.
After high school Harold served in the U.S. Army (1967- 1971) including more than one year in Asia. Afterwards he enrolled in Youngstown State University, from which he graduated in 1975. With a degree in Business Administration in hand, Harold served in administrative capacities with several businesses around the country as well as two self employed ventures. His most recent employment was as grounds superintendent at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery where both Harold and Patricia are laid to rest.
Family was always paramount to Harold. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He put others before himself and worked tirelessly to assist his family by doing whatever needed to be done, even tasks that he did not like or have a talent for; he found a way. Just as he did for his wife and children, he did everything he could for his grandchildren. This included driving them to and attending a host of activities, making birthdays special and honoring good report cards. The grandchildren liked Harold’s story telling as his tales got bigger and more interesting with each telling. They said grandpa was lot of fun. They also like his dog and companion, Charlie who was important to him after Patty’s death.
The characteristics Harold displayed with his family extended to others including extended family members, friends and co-workers. He was always tolerant, empathetic and non-judgmental but willing to offer advice when asked. He was a great boss and leader-tough, fair and caring.
Harold was an avid fisherman and he helped others to learn his fishing skills. While fishing was great fun for him, so was his talent for art, drawing, and painting wood and ceramic sculptures. But no doubt his relationship and care for Charlie provided purpose and companionship during the days since Pat died.
Most of all Harry and Pat enjoyed each other’s company as they relocated several times, traveled to Chincoteague, Virginia or to the Key West area. They were often seen happily walking, holding hands and sharing/and making wonderful memories. In the hereafter they again are holding hands cherishing memories of their wonderful years together.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a donation to the American Heart Association. A small graveside service will be held in St. Petersburg, FL and the family hopes to celebrate Harry’s life in an event next year in Chincoteague, VA.
