Gay M. Shirley, 78, of St. Petersburg, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021 with her family close by. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from Westminster College, Pennsylvania in 1964 where she was a member of Delta Z Read Obituary
Deepest condolences to Gay ‘s family. We met at Tampa Bay Basketmakers Guild and became good friends through weaving. She was a very talented Basketmakers and was always there to help any new weavers. Heartbroken at her passing.

Mrs. Shirley was such a caring and thoughtful person. She made my Granddaughter so many clothes and blankets for her dolls, a pillow case for every holiday, each with a special note attached. I have some of her baskets in my home that I will always treasure.

My heartfelt condolences to Dick and Kim. I met Gay in l968 when I was a beginning teacher of business education at Northeast High. Gay was so kind, thoughtful, and helpful. She became my mentor and source of confidence in teaching at a very “stressful period” in teaching. I remember her excitement when marrying Dick and her true happiness when Kim was born. Was so happy to see Kim and meet her husband a year so ago! Thought of her often. Will never forget what a true, professional colleague she was.

Gay was one of the first gals I met after moving to St. Pete at what else-a craft class. We shared over 40 years of couples and ladies bridge. Although we sort of lost touch as I have moved to Tampa, I will always remember her kind ways. Now she lies in the arms of her loving Savior. Rest in peace, dear Gay.

Mrs. Shirley was my NEHI typing teacher. She was always professional and taught her students things that would make them a success. I give Mrs. Shirley much credit in making me a suçcessful admin. My sincere sympathies to her husband and entire family and friends.
Gay and I first met in an evening tailoring class at Dixie Hollins HS probably 1965,1966. We roomed together briefly then vacationed together in San Francisco during the summer of love 1967. We started a Wednesday bridge group and enjoyed so many wonderful happy bridge get-togethers. We both met our prospective husbands and were in each other's weddings. Gay and Dick's daughter Kim and my daughter, Carrie were born and played together at many of our bridge games. I will forever miss her warm and wonderful smile and infectious laughter. She was fun to share Pilates with and also our luncheons. No mention of her support for the Rays which she loved. I am also a DZ so she is a sister to me.
