Gary Lee Hixon, Sr, 70 passed away June 20,2022 in Gainesville, FL with his wife and son by his side. Born in Dayton, OH September 20, 1951. Moved 2021 from St. Petersburg, FL to Old Town, FL.
Gary was preceded in death by his daughter Vicki L. Hixon, father John E. Hixon, mother Charlotte A. Hartley-Hixon-Willis, 4 brothers, Joseph W. Hixon (Billy), Michael E. Hixon (Mickey), Randy J. Hixon and Kenneth E. Hixon (Kenny).
Gary is survived by his wife Carol A. Montigny-Hixon of 27 years, 3 children - Sue A. Hixon, Gary L. Hixon, Jr., Monica S. Hixon-Dalton, 3 stepchildren - Robert J. White (Theresa White), John P. Donnell, Jr. (Kristin Taylor), Tammy L. Donnell, 1 sister - Patricia A. Hixon-Branscomb (Patty), 2 brother-in-laws - James W. Branscomb, David L. Montigny, 3 sisters-in-law - Rhonda F. O’Bryan-Hixon, Elizabeth R. Lacy-Norvell-Hixon, Linda J. Montigny-Kidder-Marcoux (Victor Ford), 13 grandchildren - Kiana R. Hixon, Dejonae L. Hixon, Anthony Ryan L. Hixon, Justin L. Hixon, Savannah L. Hixon, Owen L. Green, April Ann Marie Dalton (Tyler Huff), Vicki L. Dalton-Poe (Dalton Poe), Robert J. White II, Leigha N. White, Jayden T. Donnell, John P. Donnell III, Khloe G. Donnell,7 Great grandchildren plus 1 more on the way, pets - Harley Blossom and Chatoyancy (Chatty), multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gary served in the US Army from 1968 to 1972. He was a Life member of F.O.E. Seminole Aerie 4147, Charter member of F.O.E. 4147 Eagle Riders, Charter member of F.O.E. Pinellas Park Aerie 4250, Life member of Suwannee River Amvets 422, Old Town American Legion Post 383 and Suwannee River Moose Lodge 325.
He enjoyed hunting morel mushrooms in the spring; riding his dog Harley Blossom on his ATV; taking walks with his wife, Harley Blossom and Chatty; riding his motorcycle; playing cards with family and friends; restoring antique cars with his son; playing bingo; fishing and playing soft-tip darts.
He was retired from Gulf Marine/Hendry Corp Shipyards and worked 45 years as welder/fabricator foreman.
Visitation will be at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday, July 1, 2022, 11:00am to 12:00pm, with funeral service at 12:00pm.
