Franklin R. Galloway's Obituary
Galloway, Franklin R., 96, entered into heaven Friday, August 25, 2023. Born to his parents, Lunger and Lillian Galloway predeceased him. He was a devoted husband to Marian for 68 ½ years. He is survived by his wife and three daughters and their families; Marilyn Shaw, Marlene and Bob Lieber, and Mariella and Mark Stevens; six grandchildren, Justin (Tara), Christopher (Laurie), Nathan (Bonnie), Marie (Mike), Spencer (Kayla), and Shelby (Thomas); and 12 great-grandchildren Kyle (Gabby), Brandon (Ashley), Katelynn (Jake), Brett, Madison, Abigail, Gwendolyn, Mia, Gunner, Brody, Mariah, and Reese (their pop pop); and his beloved dog, Happy.
Franklin served in the Navy in WWII as an Aviation Electrician. After discharge, he was a policeman in East McKeesport, and a baker in his mother’s bakery. In 1954, he moved to Saint Petersburg and was a baker at Ponath’s Bakery making bread for Webb City. In 1961, he was hired by the City and worked as Chief Operator at Treatment Plant #1; retiring after 30 years. He enjoyed hobbies such as working in the rose garden, a model train enthusiast, his love for woodworking creating and constructed many heirlooms that are treasured by his family; he continued his art of cake decorating with many celebrations of weddings and birthdays. He was active with The Gideons. As a long-time member of St. Luke’s Church, he helped with repairs and maintenance of the church and homes of parishioners, enjoyed working with the youth and driving the bus and continued into his 90s with outreach of feeding the homeless (Galloway goulash) and pack-a-sack.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in his honor at 2pm on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at St. Luke’s UMC, 4444 5th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church towards the outreach programs.
