Mr. Frank M Figueroa's Obituary
Mr. Frank M. Figueroa., age 89 of Tampa, formerly of Oldsmar, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. Born on May 7th, 1926, In Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico he came to New York City at age 14 and settled in the Bronx with his mother Emma Carrasquillo. As a young adult he served in the Air Force and later became a disc jockey at WLIB and WHOM radio stations.
Frank met his wife Mildred Nieves at age 24 and married her in 1950. He attended Seton Hall University, New York University and Columbia University, where he received his doctorate in education. They moved to Normal/Bloomington, IL in 1952 where he taught 3rd to 5th graders on television. In 1954 they relocated to St. Petersburg where Frank became a Professor at Eckerd College and taught Spanish and Literature until his retirement. He was the Author of 13 books, numerous articles and the founder and CEO of Pillar Publications. His writing passion was mostly about Latin American musicians. He and “Millie” later saw a need to properly translate various writings from English to Spanish and vice versa and started a translation business. Frank and Millie were happily married for 65 years.
He leaves behind his loving wife, his sister Carmen Barros of Palm Coast, FL and brother Henry Figueroa of Merrifield, VA.
Viewing and Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday February 23rd, 2016 at Memorial Park Funeral Home – 5750 49th St N. St. Petersburg from 1:00pm to 2:30pm, with a reception to follow.
A memorial ceremony with military honors will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date this summer.......
