Esmine Joyce Smith's Obituary
Esmine Joyce Smith, (nee Henriques), was born in Walker’s Wood, St, Mary, Jamaica, West Indies, on January 14th, 1937, to Eric and Dorick Henriques. She died at home surrounded by family on August 10, 2022, in Saint Petersburg Florida.
She attended Elim Seventh Day Adventist church, loved to bake, cook, sew, travel, and entertain frequently with her late husband Oswald Smith. Their home was open to all who needed a place to stay, be it long or short term, with the house nicknamed the “Smith Hilton.” Holiday and other celebrations were memorable occasions as she was a master cook and baker, and made what those who partook, of her famous Christmas eggnog, consider it legendary.
She was a CNA for many years at St. Petersburg General Hospital, and later worked private duty care for patients, many of whom later became lifelong friends, along with their families.
She was caring, strong, loving, patient, and doted on her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, in-laws, and extended family. There was nothing she would not do for you if she could. Her warmth and infectious smile, laughter, love of watching tennis, growing her many fruit trees, and orchids as well as being a master Sudoku puzzle solver and expert BB gun shooter made her great fun to be around.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Oswald O. Smith, her brothers Clement Henriques, Ucal Henriques, a nephew Wayne Henriques, and two nieces Audrey Hill, Suzette Henriques.
She leaves to cherish her memory in love and gratitude, five children: Angella Francis (Paul), Joan Beadle (Robert), Donna Hopkins (Kevin), Mark Smith (Toni), Michael Smith (Andrea), four grandchildren: Victoria (Delodondre), Meaghan, Christopher, Brittany; two great grandchildren : Gianna and Doniro, three brothers: Cleon Henriques (Minnie), Sidney “Herbie” Henriques (Sara), Carlton Henriques, and a sister Menna Thompson; a sister-in-law Daisy Henriques; 14 nephews: Donovan, Devon, Dwight, Kenrick, Paul, Roje, Anthony, Carlton Jr., Harold, Robert, Wayne, Keron, Andrew, Orlando, Dean, Mark; six nieces: Charesse, Keisha, Ann, Diane, Maxine, and Donna; 31 plus great grand-nephews and nieces, and a host of other family members and friends too numerous to mention that loved her and continue to cherish her memories.
Her family will be holding Services at Memorial Park Funeral Home starting at 11 AM followed by a brief Committal Service at Royal Palms South Cemetery.
