Emily L. Poindexter's Obituary
Emily L. Poindexter
Emily was born November 7, 1918 in Charleston, WV, the ninth of ten children, born to Ada and Grigsby C. Lewis Sr. There were three boys and seven girls. They lived on South Hills where she attended Fernbank Elementary School. Emily married James M. Poindexter in July 1942. Early in the 1950’s the couple moved to Florida, near her older brother G. C. Jr., the eighth in line, who had moved in 1946. They spent the rest of their lives in the Tampa Bay area with residences in Tampa, Clearwater and Largo. James was a businessman and Emily was a homemaker who liked decorating their homes, flower gardening and working with crafts. Oriental decor was a favorite. She and her husband were close with her brother’s family and shared in their social and holiday activities. James passed in 1981, after which she lived alone until January, 2010. She then took up residence at Barrington Terrace, ALF in Largo. There she enjoyed the community atmosphere and was active in crafts, slowly strolling the plants and flowered sidewalks, and attending entertainment activities. Emily passed away November 4, 2014, just 3 days before her ninety sixth, birthday.
