Elizabeth D. Smeriglio's Obituary
Elizabeth D. Smeriglio, age 90, passed away on November 13, 2019 in Pinellas Park, Florida. She was born on June 14, 1929 in Yonkers, New York to George and Jane McLeod. She grew up in Stamford, Connecticut and attended Stamford Public Schools, graduating from Stamford High School in 1947. Elizabeth married Thomas Smeriglio of Greenwich, CT on June 9th, 1951 and after 8 years of living in Stamford, resided in Ridgefield, CT where they raised their 2 children and lived for 44years before relocating to Pinellas Park, FL in 2005. While in Ridgefield, she worked as a secretary for Ridgefield Public Schools at East Ridge Middle School. Upon leaving Ridgefield Public Schools, she became the secretary for many years for Dr. Theodore Safford, followed by becoming executive secretary at the T-Bar Corporation. Before her retirement in 1994, Elizabeth was the executive corporate secretary for Malcolm McGregor Associates. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Jane McLeod, her brothers William and George McLeod, and her grandson Alexander Smeriglio. She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Smeriglio of Pinellas Park, FL, her children Jane Swiatek and Thomas Smeriglio, Jr of Ridgefield, CT. Her Granddaughters Christine Swiatek of Monroe, CT and Lacey Barboza of Norwich, CT, her sister and brother-in-law Johanna and Gary Fowler of Limestone, TN, two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 20th at 11:00am at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
