Elizabeth A. Niles' Obituary
Elizabeth Ann (Nover) Niles passed away on March 16, 2020, after an 18 month battle with cancer. She was 72. Known as Betty Ann to her family, and Betty to her friends, she was born in Orlando, Florida on June 13, 1947. She spent her childhood in Florida until her late teens when she joined the Job Corps for several years. She subsequently studied at New York City College, and eventually returned to the Saint Petersburg area where she worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant, and in management at several St. Petersburg and Tampa convenience stores. Betty struggled with several major health issues in her life, but even when her health forced her to retire, she continued with her mission of helping others by volunteering for multiple agencies, including the St. Giles Food Pantry in Pinellas Park, where she acted as manager.
Betty’s family and friends will remember her as a person who always tried to look on the bright side of life, and who loved making and giving gifts. She excelled at making crafts of all kinds, and her gifts were always useful and well made, as well as decorative. But Betty was best known as a fantastic baker. Her gifts of cookies at Christmas and her cakes from scratch at every birthday party will be missed by everyone.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, John and Kathleen Nover, and her sister, Mary Louise Niles. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Ray Reid; her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Scott Gibson; and her much loved grandchildren, Shaye Gibson and Luke Gibson (Marae’), and great-granddaughter, Ily Grace Gibson. Betty is greatly missed by her family and her friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on June 16, 2020, at St. Vincent’s Episcopal Church, 5441 Ninth Ave N, St. Petersburg. Interment of her ashes will follow at 12:00 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5750 49th St. N, St. Petersburg.
