Mrs. Elizabeth Luger Burgess' Obituary
Elizabeth Luger Burgess, age 75, passed away on August 20, 2018 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Betsi was born on September 11, 1942 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to George and Betty Luger; she grew up St. Petersburg, attended St. Paul Catholic School and Boca Ciega High School. Betsi went to fashion design school in New York, then began a long and successful career in retailing, primarily with Macy’s in New York and San Francisco and The Emporium in San Francisco.
She was engaged in and supported many charitable, civic and national organizations throughout her life. In 1992, she and her husband moved from San Francisco to Mississippi, then on to Flowery Branch, GA and St. Petersburg, FL. She continued her philanthropic and civic activities and reinvented herself as The Florida Dream Painter, completing over 5,000 of her “yard art” paintings over almost 20 years, bringing happiness to those who enjoyed her unique and colorful creations.
Betsi leaves her beloved husband John, her son Todd, his wife Katrise and grandchildren Dylan and Savanna of Hong Kong; her brother Don and his wife Sharon of Atlanta, brother Tom of Belleair Beach and her cousin Sandra of Madeira Beach; her niece Morgan and nephews Christopher and TJ.
Mass will be at 11:30 am Saturday, August 25, 2018 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 445 82nd Avenue, St. Pete Beach, Florida 33706, followed by a graveside service and reception at the Burgess home, 120 Park Street N., St. Petersburg, Florida 33710.
