Edwin Salmanis' Obituary
A Salute to Sal
January 11th, 1958 – May 28th, 2026
Sal loved a good game day more than anything. Give him a Dodgers score or a chance to talk baseball and he lit right up.
Edwin “Sal” Salmanis was born in a suburb outside of Chicago, Illinois, to Janis and Veronika Salmanis. Growing up, he carried the grit of the city with him, staying determined, responsible, and loyal in every season of life. Thoughtful yet a bit salty when the moment called for it, he never backed down from sharing what he believed.
Those same traits—resilient, confident, and always focused—served him well far beyond the ballpark. Whether talking plays or tackling everyday tasks, Sal faced everything head-on and expected the same drive from anyone beside him.
Sal passed away peacefully at home in Tampa, Florida, on May 28th, holding on to his love for baseball right to the end. He is preceded in death by his parents, Janis and Veronika, and his twin Sister: Lydia Salmanis. His memory now rests in the hands of friends who cheered with him through wins and losses alike.
We will keep Sal’s place in our hearts whenever the Dodgers take the field. Until the next first pitch, we’ll carry his loyal spirit with us and say a quiet “Play ball” in his honor.
