Edmund Anthony Hamburger's Obituary
Edmund Anthony Hamburger died peacefully in St. Petersburg, FL, on March 1, at age 95. Born in Queens, NY, he graduated from Bishop Loughlin High School, received a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, a J.D. from Fordham University, and a Masters of Law (LL.M.) from NYU. He took tremendous pride in a career as a corporate attorney specializing in mergers, acquisitions and IPOs in Manhattan and then with Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp in Los Angeles, celebrated for his knowledge and problem solving. For 30 years he raced sports cars, winning SCCA championships across the U.S., and was an avid spectator of Formula One. After moving to the Mainlands, in 2003 he met the love of his life, Arlene Stewart, who predeceased him in 2015. He was honored by his beloved fraternity, Alpha Sigma Phi, as past president and oldest alumnus attending the 2022 National Chapter meeting in New Orleans. Family who have treasured time with him include: daughter Maria Duynslager of St. Petersburg, FL, her husband Larry, and grand- and great-grandchildren John Cassidy and Devin, Hayley and Caleb; Lisa and Paul Chistolini, and Ella, Eason and Emme, and Noah Preble; and daughter Melanie Hamburger of Sausalito, CA, her partner John Caletti, and grandchildren Kathryn and Thomas Russell. He was a devout member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Pinellas Park, where a memorial service will be held Saturday, March 18, at 10:00. Alpha Sigma Phi has created a scholarship fund in his name and memorial gifts may be made at edhamburger.aspgiving.org.
