Dorothy Louise Luminari's Obituary
Just before 1:00 am on Wednesday August 24, 2016, Dorothy Luminari, 90 years old, passed away peacefully of natural causes. Her daughter, Catherine Fulton, was at her side.
Mrs. Luminari was a resident at Ava Cares, a small ALF in Brandon Florida and was much loved by the staff and the other five residents.
Dorothy was born in Lynchburg Virginia on April 3, 1926. She was the oldest of four children of Cardelia Strickland and Artie Ellis Reynolds.
During WWII, she moved to Onset Massachusetts to work with other young women to support the war effort. This led her to another move to Framingham Massachusetts, where she met her future husband, John Joseph Luminari. They were married on may 16th, 1948 at St. Stephens Church in Framingham. Their daughter Catherine was born two years later in November 1950.
Mrs. Luminari was a housewife who enjoyed gardening, sewing and arts and crafts.
She was an accomplished quilter and seamstress and also a talented self-taught artist. She always worked side by side with her husband on whatever project needed to be done whether it was putting up drywall, painting or mixing cement. John called her his “#1 Helper”( his daughter was his #2 Helper). Dorothy and John loved to take cruises, and one of their favorite things to do was to dance in the beautiful ballrooms.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Cardelia Strickland, her father Artie Reynolds, her step-father Lenard Siler, and her beloved husband, John Luminari.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Catherine, her brothers Melvin and William and her sister Shirley.
The service for Dorothy will be held Monday August 29th, 2016 at Memorial Park Cemetery 5750 49th St North, St Petersburg, Fl 33709 at 1:00 pm.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the caregivers at Ava Cares, Ava, and the Lifepath Hospice Purple and Silver Teams. All of these individuals provided outstanding care, friendship and love to Dorothy. They treated her as if she were their family and made sure she was comfortable and content at all times. An extra special thanks to Lucy at Ava Cares for all the personal attention she gave to Dorothy. God Bless you all for you care.
Dorothy is once again with her husband, John and they are now dancing with the stars.
