Dorothy C. Shields' Obituary
Shields, Dorothy Carter, 96, of Kenneth City, FL, died Tues., July 8, 2008 at Lexington Health & Rehab. Ctr. under the care of The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. She was a native of Tampa, FL & subsequently moved to St. Petersburg, FL with her husband and daughter. She was a homemaker & enjoyed sewing, embroidery & cooking. She worked several years in St. Petersburg for the Florida Fishing Tackle Co. & retired from Brite Industries, St. Petersburg. She was a Baptist, & a former member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, teaching Sunday school there for many years. In later years she provided the City of Tampa Police Dept. with historical information about her father & his 2 brothers, all serving on the Dept. in the early 1900' s. One of the brothers was the 2nd officer killed in the line of duty in 1905 while serving the Dept. Dorothy was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Sylvia Rosenbusch, St. Petersburg, FL. Survivors include a daughter, Janet Barca (James), Pinellas Park, FL; 2 granddaughters, Heide Rand (Joe), Weston, FL & Erika R. Webb, Orlando, FL; a niece, Gretchen Goodyear, W A; 2 nephews, Louis Carter (Faye), St. Petersburg, FL & Michael Carter, WA; a grandnephew, Christopher Carter, St. Petersburg, FL, & 4 great 'grandchildren. Service is 2:30 p.m., Sat., July 12, 2008 at the funeral home.
