Donald Lee Nadeau's Obituary
Donald Lee Nadeau, 99, of Fairfax, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, October 19th, 2016 at Fairfax Inova Hospital.
Donald was born in Avoca, New York on April 15th, 1917 to Walter Lee and Cora Belle (Eaton) Nadeau. The oldest of six children he spent his childhood and youth in upstate New York. He subsequently lived in Phoenix, Arizona and Saint Petersburg, Florida before relocating to Fairfax, Virginia to be close to his family.
A Child of the great depression, Donald was not afraid of hard work. Most of his working life was spent in retail sales. He often worked 12- hour days with no complaints. After his retirement from sales he started a lawn mowing business in his late 60s. Always friendly and ready to help others, he was the “go-to guy” in his neighborhood.
During World War II, he was deployed overseas with the 75th Infantry Division serving in Great Britain, France, Belgium, and Germany with credit for the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Three Sisters survive him: Betty Hoffman of Bloomfield, New York; Beatrice Morley of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania; and Virginia Watters of Canandaigua, New York. Two brothers, Frederick Nadeau and Robert Nadeau, Predeceased him.
Widowed three times, Donald’s first wife Margaret F. (Manning) Nadeau. Married for over 45 years, Margaret passed on June 8, 1983. Donald’s second wife, Meta (Breuer) Nadeau passed on April 7, 1996. His third wife was Josephine (Novinski) Nadeau. Donald lost Josephine on August 7, 2006.
He is survived by his daughter, Diana Le Hooper, and her husband, Thomas A. Hooper of Burke, Virginia; grandson James T. Hooper and granddaughter – in –law, Rebecca Hooper of Hong Kong; granddaughter Katie Schaefer and grandson-in-law Eric Schaefer of Falls Church, Virginia; great grandsons Ryan and William Hooper; and great granddaughter Zoe Mattix.
Donald will be interned next to his beloved Margaret at Memorial Park in Saint Petersburg, Florida with a graveside service on Monday November 14, 2016 at 2:00P. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Donald’s name to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
