Donald R. Mccracken's Obituary
McCracken, Donald R., 'Don', 85, of St Petersburg, died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Palazzo di Oro. He was born in Minneapolis, MN. and moved to Waterloo, IA. at an early age. He graduated from East Waterloo High School in 1940. Later he attended Iowa State Teacher College, later named University of Northern Iowa where he majored in business administration. In 1953 his family relocated to St Petersburg, Fl where he was employed by the St Petersburg Times for many years. Later he accepted a position as Advertising Director of Pinellas Lumber Company. In later years he was employed as a part time head cashier with St Petersburg Yacht Club for 15 years. He was a WWII Army veteran and survived the Battle of the Bulge and Battles Rhineland and Central Europe. He was decorated with 4 overseas service bars, European, African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct medal and World War II victory medal. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Amvet and Lions Club. He w as a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He is preceded in death by his wife Bessie of 59 years, He is survived by his daughters Christine Deal, Linda Gomez and Natalie Goff all of St Petersburg, and 3 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church in his memory.
