Mr. Donald Wayne Jernigan's Obituary
Donald W. Jernigan served his country not only in the US Army for over 11 years, but later as a career Firefighter / EMT / Paramedic working for the US Government. He entered into eternal sleep the morning of August 23rd, 2015 at the age of 71.
Originally from Tampa, FL, Don Jernigan became Private Jernigan when he enlisted in the Army right out of high school in the early 1960s and went straight to Vietnam. After getting wounded, he returned stateside and continued his service for another 11 years, mostly as a Drill Sergeant, earning the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Don then transferred out of the military into government service in the fire department. He went through EMT, Paramedic and FireFighter training and was stationed on/with emergency response teams at national airports.
Passionate to continue serving his fellow man, Don worked in the ER at University Community Hospital for over 11 years. Donald worked for Albertson's grocery store for over 15 years and was an ROTC instructor at Jefferson High School.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Larner Jernigan and children, Bryan (Vicki) Jernigan, Mike Jernigan, Ronald (Shannon) Carroll, and Rhonda Carroll Shuman.
All services / ceremonies will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Dates and Times are noted below. Military and Fire Dept honors are being arranged for Saturday 8/29.
