Diana C Wheeler's Obituary
Diana was born March 6, 1940, to David E. and Bonnie L. Sherman at the Providence Hospital in southeast Washington, DC. She grew up in southeast Washington until 1950 when her family moved to Oxon Hill, MD. She was always very active in school. She was tops in her class academically, participating in numerous clubs, and as a senior she led the cheerleading squad.
After graduating she attended Carson-Newman College in Tennessee. She returned back home and became a dental assistant until she got married to William (Bill) Wheeler on June 15, 1963. Bill entered the Air Force that same year and she moved with him, living in Mississippi, Maryland, Germany, New York, New Hampshire, Virginia, and finally Florida. In Mississippi she had two sons, David and Ken.
Throughout her life she was very active in church. She loved teaching teenagers in Sunday School. She participated in choir everywhere she went. She played accordion in her early years and after she had a regular income, bought herself a piano and learned to play. She was still playing the piano for the residents of Bon Secours Maria Manor until just a few weeks ago.
She loved to travel and she accompanied Bill on many business trips. She learned to ski while living in Germany. She loved to crochet, and many family members and friends have afghans of her making. She was a voracious reader, especially of biographies. Her greatest joy, however, was her family; husband Bill, two sons, two daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren.
She was a strong witness for Jesus and spoke of Him to others frequently. Many of the staff and other patients at Bon Secours said that she continually talked about God and her faith in Jesus. She prayed and read her Bible faithfully. We will all miss her smile and cheery disposition.
