Demetria Janella Chand's Obituary
Demetria Janella Chand (née Torres), affectionately known as "String Bean," passed away on April 27, 2026, at the age of 45, in Largo, Florida. Born on May 8, 1980, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, she dedicated her life to caring for others, both as a Certified Nursing Assistant at a skilled nursing facility and in her personal life as a mother, wife, and friend.
Demetria was renowned for her nurturing spirit. Her passion for helping others extended beyond her professional role into every aspect of her life. She had a deep love for football, especially the Eagles, and enjoyed spending time at the beach, camping, and dancing. Her adventurous spirit was evident in her love for roller coasters and her culinary experiments, always eager to try new recipes and share them with loved ones.
She leaves behind her husband, Sam Chand, and their sons, Karan and Jaivant. Demetria is also survived by her mother, Mary Lou (Anthony) Barreto; her father, David Torres, Sr.; brothers David (Nichole) Torres II, Jason (Gloria) Torres, Alex Torres, and Sam Torres; her sisters, Taylor Torres and Tiffany Torres; her mother-in-law, Lila Chand; sister-in-law, Julia (Naveen) Mattu; brother-in-law, Roger Chand; and a large circle of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, extended family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Prakash Chand.
A service to celebrate Demetria's life will be held on Saturday, May 2, from 5 to 7 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home, located at 5750 49th St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33709. Her warmth, care, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
