Sis Craig, one of the greatest true Christian ladies of our generation. Came to St. Petersburg 1/03/1956 (shortly after her marriage to Wilbur Craig in Indiana). Went to work at A&P Market for 96 cents an hour (Wilbur Craig kept looking for a better job, but after 3 months found a truck driving job for 97 cents an hour.
To start a new mission church, they rented a duplex on 52nd Avenue ($65 a month for one side & $15 for the other side); The Apostolic Message was now being preached in St. Petersburg. The soon brought property on 62nd Avenue N. a built a 20'x68' building in 1958. Colleen Craig recalled helping build that building: as men would dump a pickup truck of salvaged used concrete block from some demolishing site, she would spend the day with a hammer and chisel chipping away the old mortar so the blocks could be reused.
By 1963 they built a new 40'x84' auditorium finished off with stone imported for their native state of Indiana.
Faithful, dedicated, loyal, hard working: a typical Friday afternoon would find her in the church kitchen baking a 100 - no, make that 200 or more - pies to take to the Saturday big flee market in Webster.
Sis. Craig was also principal and main teacher at their school, St. Pete Christian Academy. [my daughter, Beth, graduated high school from that school]. Sis. Craig was also majorly involved in Florida District Ladies Ministry and other church work....
God must have a great reward in heaven for her.
