David Willard Sliger's Obituary
David Willard Sliger, 75, passed away September 14, 2021.
He was born July 7, 1946 in Gainesville, Georgia to Willard and Edith Sliger.
He served his country honorably and proudly in the U.S Air Force from 1964 to 1968. He was selected to attend the elite PJ unit Air Force Pararescue. He was stationed in Udorn, Thailand with the renown "Jolly Green" Rescue Squadron. He flew 30 combat missions over Laos and North Vietnam rescuing several downed pilots. He received the Silver Star Distinguished Flying Cross for Heroism, 8 air medals and numerous awards. He was highly respected by his (PJ) brothers, living by their motto "These things we do so that others may live". He was stationed at Patrick Air Force Base in support of the Apollo Program.
He attended University of Florida receiving his Bachelors Degree for Building and Contracting.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Janis Albritton, stepsons Richard D'Amico of New York, Gary Albritton of Holiday, and Teresa (Alan) Dean. Three much-loved grandchildren Lauren and Jack Dean and Adrianna Albritton.
Mother Edith Sliger, two brothers Larry Sliger of Bushnell and Sam Sliger of Georgia, and sister Linda Hunt of Georgia.
A military graveside service will be held at the Florida National Cemetery of Bushnell with honor guard.
