David Glenn Guss' Obituary
David Glenn Guss, 61, of Shelbyville, TN passed away unexpectedly on December 28th, 2023. David was born on August 7, 1962 in St. Petersburg, FL to John C. and Corrine Guss.
David grew up in St. Petersburg and graduated from St. Petersburg Christian School in 1980 and received his Associates In Arts and Business degree from St. Petersburg Junior College. David had various jobs in his early years then followed in his father’s footsteps for a long career in the grocery industry. He and his wife, Linn, and their pets moved many times throughout the southeast, including Georgia, South Carolina, Florida and Tennessee as he worked his way up to becoming a Retail Sales Supervisor for the southeast Division of KeHE Distributors. He was one of the hardest working, most devoted employees possible. He loved his KeHE family, and they loved him.
David devoted his time to helping rescue and foster over 400 dogs and cats over his lifetime. He was passionate about animals and their humane treatment. He was kind and compassionate to all living creatures. He volunteered with many animal rescues over the years. He was also very passionate about sports and especially his beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers and supported them through the good and bad years. He enjoyed watching baseball and football with his father, brothers and nephews. David also taught himself to become a very good home fix it guy and did many home repairs and also liked to build things. He also enjoyed golfing and was an avid gardener and took pride in his roses, Japanese Maple Trees, Dogwood trees and blueberries. He also enjoyed music and concerts, walks on the beach and hiking in the mountains.
David married his beloved wife Linn (Fritz) in 1987. They enjoyed new adventures, traveling, gardening, hiking, home renovations and nature. Over the years David was daddy to many fur babies that adored him.
David touched many lives and is deeply missed by all that knew him.
David was preceded in death by his parents, John and Corrine Guss, a grandniece, Tessa Goves, he is survived by his loving wife, Linn, his brothers Wayne Groves and John C Guss, Jr (Deborah) his nephews Matt Guss, Anthony Guss, Danny Groves, Darren Groves and his nieces Sara Groves and Bonnie Groves, four great nieces and nephews and 3 great great nieces and nephews, his beloved dogs Sophie and Lil Bit and cat Puddin.
A memorial service will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on May 25th, 2024 at 11 am, followed by light refreshments after the service.
