David Robert Bonsey's Obituary
David Robert Bonsey, aged 68, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on May 23rd, 2026. A lifelong resident of St. Petersburg, he was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Jean Baily, brothers James J. and Daniel T., and niece Tiffany Tribou. He is survived by his brother John Jr. (Johnny), sisters Brenda Shiflett and Diane Caronongan, sister-in-law Debi Spriggs, brother-in-law Bobby Caronongan, and 10 nieces.
David attended St. Paul's Catholic School, St. Petersburg High School, and briefly St. Petersburg Junior College. He always aspired to be a stand-up comedian, but never could quite find a way to break into the highly competitive profession. His dream lived on until the day he died. He worked for various security companies as a security guard until he retired. This allowed him time during the day to research various comedians' life stories at the library. He was an avid reader and had a plethora of books, magazines, articles, and posters of his favorite comics, among which were Jerry Lewis and Curly of the 3 stooges. He also was very much into music and singers with Elvis, the Beatles, and composer John Barry among his preferred listening.
He will be remembered for always wanting to help those around him. Over the years he donated to various children's charities. David will be deeply missed by his family and everyone he knew.
Services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery on Monday, June 22nd, at 2 pm, at Memorial Park Cemetery.
