Stella Whitlock
Clotilda was the best sister anyone could ever ask for. From the first time she was put into my arms on my fourth birthday, she was my best friend, loving and loyal, gentle and generous, always thinking of others before herself. She was the best daughter to our parents, Byron Moody Ward and Lois Rodgers Ward, becoming their faithful caretaker as they aged. She was also the best aunt to my four children and their spouses, Linus (Jen), Martha (Stan Reed), Elizabeth (Ed Badgett), and David (Evelyn). And no one could have been a better wife, to her first husband Warren Brainerd until his death and her second husband Robert Malloy until her own death, always putting each of them before herself. As a friend, she was loyal and loving. As a Christian, she put Christ before everything else in her life. She lived her faith through her deeds of service, including Kairos, Via de Cristo, helping others in need, Bible studies, and singing in church choirs. Her strong faith sustained her through her long, difficult battle with cancer.
As sisters we remained close over the years through frequent phone calls, visits to each other's homes, and travelling together. It was wonderful for me to be able to get down to St. Pete and visit with her for several days just before she died while we could still communicate and reminisce with each other.
I miss her.
